9) Verify the torque converter on automatic units. Confirm it is included, that it seats fully, and that it rotates freely by hand with no scoring on the hub. A converter that will not seat to full depth will destroy the pump on the first startup.


10) Rotate the output shaft. It should turn with consistent resistance. Binding, catching, or a gritty feel through the rotation indicates internal damage.
